Early Life & Background

Jeremy Allen White was born on February 17, 1991, in Brooklyn, New York, specifically in the Carroll Gardens neighborhood . His parents, Eloise Ziegler and Richard White—both former theater performers—met through their work in New York City. While his father later shifted to videotaping legal depositions and his mother entered the education field, Jeremy grew up in a creatively rich environment  He also has a younger sister, Annabelle, with whom he shared a supportive family upbringing .

From a young age, Jeremy explored the performing arts through dance, learning ballet, jazz, and tap during elementary school. By age 13, he shifted his focus toward acting and enrolled at the Professional Performing Arts School in Manhattan’s Hell’s Kitchen .

Career Beginnings

He launched his on-screen career in 2006 with minor roles in the film Beautiful Ohio and TV series like Conviction, Law & Order, and SVU . These early experiences helped Jeremy build his craft and screen presence.

Breakthrough with Shameless

Jeremy’s major breakthrough came in 2011 when he was cast as Phillip “Lip” Gallagher in Showtime’s long-running dramedy Shameless. Over ten seasons and 134 episodes, he delivered nuanced performances that earned him a Critics’ Choice Television nomination in 2014. During this period, he also appeared in feature films such as Rob the Mob (2014) and After Everything (2018) .

Rise to Stardom with The Bear

In 2022, Jeremy stepped into the lead role as Carmen “Carmy” Berzatto in FX/Hulu’s culinary drama The Bear. To prepare, he trained at the Institute of Culinary Education. His emotionally charged and layered portrayal resonated with critics and audiences alike, earning him multiple Golden Globes, Emmys, Critics’ Choice, and SAG Awards .

Recent Projects & Roles

In 2023, he took on the role of wrestler Kerry Von Erich in The Iron Claw, receiving accolades for his transformation . That same year, he became a global ambassador for Calvin Klein underwear, delivering high-impact ad campaigns . Later in 2025, he is set to portray Bruce Springsteen in Deliver Me from Nowhere and join the cast of the Star Wars: The Mandalorian & Grogu film as Rotta the Hutt’s son .

Personal Life

Jeremy met actress Addison Timlin in high school. They reconnected on the film Afterschool and married in 2019. The couple welcomed two daughters in October 2018 and December 2020, before filing for divorce in 2023 . Since then, he has been linked to Spanish singer Rosalía and co‑star Molly Gordon
